For those who prefer to fill their senses with fresh air, rather than noisy technology, come to Ludington and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. A vacation spent in the great outdoors is just what the doctor ordered, and we have enough beauty here to spoil you. The "Queen of the State Parks," also known as the Ludington State Park, should be at the top of your list. You can hike on eight marked trails throughout the park, each with its own unique scenery. Visit the Big Sable Point Lighthouse along the beach, or launch a canoe at the Hamlin Lake Beach and leisurely check out the wildlife and waterfowl. There are special summer programs at the Park, including a walking history tour and a trip through the night sky. During the wintertime, the State Park becomes a haven for cross county skiers and those who enjoy snowshoeing.

Fishing and boating are absolutely the best here, with many boat launches in the area. Charter captains are standing by, ready to share their expertise with you out on the big water. Rent a pontoon for relaxation—or a jet ski for a more exhilarating ride.

The beautiful golf courses of Ludington beckon you onto their greens and fairways. Play nine or 18 holes, with or without cart, on two public golf courses. For the "lightweight" golfer, head to one of three mini golf courses in town, or try your hand at disc golf. Ludington has five courses to choose from, and the wooded terrain is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

Downtown Ludington is a great place to start for a day of outdoor fun. Take a walking tour of the colorful murals that grace many businesses. There are 11 murals around Ludington, and the artists have hidden an object in each one, challenging you to find it. The S.S. Badger carferry sails in and out of Ludington May-October, and if time allows, take the leisurely four hour trip across Lake Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Stearns Park beach at the end of Ludington Avenue attracts swimmers and sun worshippers of all ages. Many stroll the shoreline, then walk the long breakwall out to the North Pierhead Light. Ludington has many beautiful outdoor parks in which to have a picnic or grill your favorite meat.

About 20 minutes south of Ludington are the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Here you can take a guided jeep tour across the rolling terrain. Or drive yourself, but with caution, as these are shifting sand dunes and constantly changing. The Little Sable Point Lighthouse is located within the Silver Lake State Park, and completes your lighthouse tour from "point to point."
