Mason County Fairgrounds
The fairgrounds have undergone a facelift in 2013-2014, with $672,000 in improvements. New projects include the creation of a trail, paving of roads, installation of a drainage system, and improvements to lighting, fencing and landscaping. A gazebo has been added just east of the rabbit and chicken building, and picnic tables are placed for people to watch the horse shows.
The annual Western Michigan Fair is usually held in early August. In addition to carnival rides, food concessions, and commercial exhibits, the fair features a demolition derby, harness horse racing, and grandstand shows.
It's wonderful to walk around the 4-H pens and look at all the different animals, or see the variety of garden and baking exhibits. The Western Michigan Fair is good, wholesome fun for the entire family. The fairgrounds are located on US-10 next to the airport.
The fairgrounds are busy throughout the summer with various horse shows, including 4-H Youth, Quarterhorse shows and the AQHA/MQHA. In September, the Mason County Fairgrounds hosts the MIHA District IX Equestrian Meet. Almost every summer weekend, there's an open air flea market at the fairgrounds, where you'll find everything from books to furniture to tools. It's a great place to browse and find those unique treasures.
