The Spirit of Ludington

The waterfront areas of many towns and cities in Michigan are changing and nowhere is that more obvious than in Ludington. A stunning revitalization of the harbor that took more than 10 years of planning and preparation was unveiled in 1999 and continues to unfold. Here, Pere Marquette Lake opens into Lake Michigan and the area along the protected marinas now includes walkways, open park spaces, condominium housing, a playground, and more--all located on the site of a former railroad yard.

The Waterfront Park is a place for families. Nicely landscaped with scenic walkways and picnic tables, there are also convenient rest room facilities and night lighting. An impressive playground is a magnet for kids who also love the park's seven bronzed sculptures. An amphitheater in the park draws music lovers to summer concerts. From all along the Waterfront Park shoreline, there are magnificent views of the harbor and carferry activity.

Adjacent to the park is a housing development of condominiums. Once the site of a factory, the $15 million project has brought to Ludington a new type of waterfront living. Views from the condominiums are nothing short of breathtaking and the easy access to the waterfront and the downtown shopping area make living here exceptionally desirable.

Harbor View Marina and the Ludington Municipal Marina provide more than 300 boat slips to accommodate the seasonal and transient traffic into Ludington's harbor.

The waterfront development project transformation from factories and railroad yards to a state-of-the-art area has turned Ludington into a community that is known for its progressive revitalization.

Relax at a picnic table, watch the carferry cruise into the harbor, and take a stroll along the pathways--the Ludington waterfront is truly magnificent!
