Never a dull moment when you fish Lake Michigan out of the port of Ludington!

Good news, the fish are biting again! We started fishing in 65ft of water in the dark, just north of the bath house. We just got all our rods out, and the fish starter biting. We had lots of action in the dark. There is nothing better than a beautiful sunrise with 3 fish on. We had some first timers on board. They caught lots of fish and, were very excited! Good job everybody. Our program was the same as July 11th.

July 12 Report--Fishing...but not Catching

After the last couple of days, today was somewhat disappointing. Went back to the point again, there was fish on the fish finder everywhere. We tried everything to make them bite. The fish had a good case of lock Jaw. I called on the phone to other captains from Pentwater to Manistee and the prognosis was the same, poor fishing. We still managed to take a few fish. I guess this is why they call it fishing not catching.

Another great catch!

Went back to the point and slammed the fish again. The first pass down the bank was very productive, two doubles and a triple to start the morning. We continued to pick fish through the day. Our program is starting to look more and more like an Aug. program.

Riggers with, Moon shine, blue lemon, mingolin beef, and Happy meal on the out and downs, and A white on white spin doctor with a pickled sunshine fly on the center rigger all took several fish. Next the wire divers with Spin doctors took fish. A tuxedo with a Margie fly and a Blue bubble, blue bubble was our best. All the cores took fish, 5, 7, and 10 colors. Our best spoons were Moon shine Tarzan tangerine and Blue Lemon. Later in the day we switched to DW super slims and Stingers. We took some Steelhead to go with our Salmon from the morning bite. One of them was 14lbs.

July 10th Fishing Report--Another Heavy Cooler!

We fished off Big Point Sable again in 135ft to 175ft of water. The temperature break was still there at 50ft. We took big 4 year old Kings on riggers 45ft, 54ft, and 77ft down with moonshines spoons and spin doctors. Wire divers 80ft and 100ft back with spin doctors also produced nice fish. A couple more came on high divers back 150ft. All 6 core rods produced fish. Here’s a tip: Try the new Tangerine Tarzan Moon Shine spoon on your half core. Another great day of fishing. Went back to the dock with another heavy cooler.

July 9th Fishing Report--Took the Limit!

Left the dock early at 4am. We had hoped to catch fish in the dark with a full moon. No such luck, the east wind overnight turned the water near shore at the point to 39 degrees. As daylight approached we found ourselves straight off the point in 120ft of water. I could see to the west another 100 yards a temperature break on the surface of the water. As soon as we passed through it the temp warmed up 6 degrees. All hell broke loose. Riggers 38ft, 42ft, and 55ft all had fish on. 3, 5, and 10 color core all took fish. Our best was the 5 color with Lemon and Tangerine Tarzan Moon shines. Took limit and went home early! Great Day!

July 4th Fishing Report

Fishing has been slow due to a variety of reasons. I really wanted to catch fish, so I made the decision to go deep and look for more active fish. We went 17 miles SW, to 47s and 47w. There in 450ft of water we found a band of cold water about 100 yards wide and 2 miles long. Riggers set at 51ft, 53ft and 57ft all took fish as did all the sliders. 3, 5, 7, and 10 color cores all took fish. We even took a couple on the high mono divers. Out there, it was a spoon bite of cores. Smaller spoons 4D’s and stingers were the best. We came back to the dock with a mixed bag of Steelhead, Lake Trout and King Salmon. Nice catch with just a few small ones mixed in. This was a great day, lots of action.
