Vision of Art

The Ludington Area Arts Council has a vision--to create a community where art and culture bring us together. A center, to fill our spirits, and fuel our growth. This vision is now coming alive. The Art Council has acquired the United Methodist Church building downtown on Harrison Street just off Ludington Ave., and will soon transition this beloved landmark into an Arts and Cultural Center for the community. Possession will take place when the church moves to a new building, and the center’s opening is anticipated sometime during 2008.

Local art, in all its visual and performing facets, has been on the rise in recent years, likely due to the lure of our beautiful natural resources and small town friendliness. The shift began as many artists, or art-minded individuals, discovered Ludington while visiting here and eventually moved here for the good life. These newcomers, along with the many talented artists already living here, have greatly influenced the character of our community. The creation of this center is testament to their passion for the arts.

As this historic building evolves into our new Arts and Cultural Center, it will include a performance hall for theater, music or dance. There will be class rooms, a gift shop, art displays, studio space, dance classes, literary readings, and much more--whatever the community wants to imagine and create.
